Phoenix Suns franchise player Devin Booker will see a decline in his offensive statistics during the 2026 campaign. This is because the Suns’ front office built a roster that doesn’t fit their offensive system.

Head coach Jordan Ott implemented an offensive system centered on the pick-and-roll last season. Phoenix ranked second in that area, running the offensive set on 20.3% of their possessions and averaging 22.9 per game.

Jordan Ott relied on the offensive set to accentuate the strengths of his best players. Before last season, he said he would run an offense to accentuate those strengths.

The Phoenix Suns’ best player is currently Devin Booker, who prefers the pick-and-roll offensive set. Before last season, he used the play type in 28.8% of his possessions, averaging seven per game. Devin was extremely productive, averaging 6.5 points while shooting 44.8% on 5.2 attempts per game.

He continued to rely on the offensive set last season. Booker spent 32.2% of his offensive possessions in the play type, averaging 8.1 per game. Again, he was extremely productive, averaging 7.5 points and shooting 43.1% on 6.2 attempts per game.

When Devin ran the offensive set last season, he had three teammates standing behind the arc as floor spacers. This forced opposing teams to keep defenders closer to the three-point line. As a result, Devin and the screener had more space to run the pick-and-roll.

This helped Phoenix rank first in pick-and-roll scoring, averaging 20.1 points per game. The team was also fifth in three-point attempts, averaging 40.8 per game.

The three-point attempts accounted for 45.3% of their total field goal attempts per game. Furthermore, 62% of those attempts were catch-and-shoot, averaging 25.3 per game. Phoenix converted those attempts at a decent rate, shooting 36.1%, 13th in the league.

Unfortunately, Phoenix’s three-point percentage is expected to decline this upcoming season. The team is currently expected to start Jalen Green, Dillion Brooks, and Miles Bridges alongside Devin Booker.

All three players have a career three-point shooting percentage below 35.4% on at least 5 attempts per game. These supporting-cast statistics matter because of how much time the starting lineup spends on the court together.

Last season, Devin Booker averaged 33.5 minutes per game across 64 appearances. He spent 26.6 percent of those minutes with the starting lineup as a unit, averaging 8.9 minutes per game across 30 appearances.

As a result, opposing teams will give them more space and shift their attention to double- or triple-teaming Devin Booker. Devin will have a decision to make at that juncture :

1. Pass the Basketball out to the perimeter for a low-percentage three-pointer.

Take a heavily contested shot over multiple defenders. Devin has excelled at contested shooting, making 46.6% on 9.9 attempts per game when a defender is 2 to 4 ft away. Although he is very efficient, this is not the type of shot you want to take over a full season.
